OUR INITIAL GOALS:
In July '93 , we established The Children's Rainforest-Inc. Canada.
Our first goal was to help further develop the Jatun Sacha (Hatun
Sacha) biological reserve in the Upper Amazon area of Ecuador. This
area was considered extremely valuable for its unusually high flora
biodiversity. It was our hope that with the renewed emphasis on Global
Education, more teachers, environmental clubs and schools would
contribute to help purchase additional land in the area. Many
educational programs at Jatun Sacha are directed to the community and
teach the principles of sustainable economies.
Today, this reserve is complete and has become a center for education
and research. Most important, it is an association managed by many
locals whose goal is to promote to the surrounding communities,
sustainable agriculture, land and water management, as well as the
preservation of the remaining forests in the area.
There is no doubt that funds raised and donated by school children over
the past few years have contributed more than ever imagined!
OUR MISSION:
To assist with projects at the grass roots level. Once the target is identified and the local organization is judged reliable, even the small amount of money raised by school children can make a real difference. Often the presence of an international organization is enough to give extra hope to local environmentalists and motivate others to work for the forest. The race is on to save as many species as possible while educating the local population. We hope to be another vehicule to help younsters realize that there is hope, there are people who care and they are invited to become one of us.
